Ministry & Missions
|
Missions is an
area that needs to touch every segment of our congregation.
We presently participate in
missions financially
more than any other way. Therefore, one of our priority goals
will be to encourage the development of various local ministry
and mission
opportunities with the involvement of every church member in
some meaningful way. We will also provide opportunities for
missions
to other countries as we continue in the first decade of this
new century. We want to be a church that is going out into
our community
and beyond with compassion, hands on Tender Loving Care, and
the good news of God’s Word to bring faith, hope and
salvation in Jesus our Lord.

| SCPC Mission Statement
Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian
Church, a gathering of sinners with God’s grace our sole
hope of salvation, take as our mission of stewardship to the
Lord Jesus Christ: the spreading
of the Good News, the shepherding of His flock, the loving of
our neighbors, and the recognition that our neighborhood is the
world.
We pledge ourselves to a goal of caring, nurturing, prayerful
service to our own and to our community at large, teaching ourselves
the word of God both at home and in church and trying to teach
others by an example of lives led as Christ commanded. In keeping
with these Bible-based ideals, we accept as our obligation the
development of programs designed to benefit each person reached
by our ministry.
Knowing we must forgive others their
trespasses because God has forgiven our own, we offer communion
to other believers and
strive to be inclusive instead of exclusive, facing outward more
than inward, building bridges rather than walls between ourselves
and all who accept – as well as all who still need to accept – Jesus
Christ as Lord and Savior.

CP Women’s Ministry – ongoing ministry
Our CP Women’s Ministry
leads the way for our congregation being very involved in local
ministry and missions. Our Women’s Ministry supports Lighthouse
Christian Camp through many of the helps and evangelistic ministries
in which the camp is involved during the Christmas season. They
are involved in the financial support of orphaned children through
the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s home. CPWM help families
in need by providing food, and many other needs that arise. They
also provide a visitation ministry to the elderly who are unable
to attend church. There are many other ways in which our Cumberland
Presbyterian Women’s Ministry continues to minister to our
extended church family and our community. back

| Our United Outreach – ongoing
involvement
OUO
is the Outreach giving for the Cumberland Presbyterian Denomination.
Each church supports the broad ministry of the denomination by
giving an annual gift based on the churches total income and membership.
We are glad to support this effort due to the many area of ministry
that are supported throughout our denomination. This graph
illustrates how the monies are divided up in different areas of
ministry.

| Project Heifer International
– special offerings
Since 1999 Smithville Cumberland
Presbyterian Church has become involved in world missions with
ministry to the poor through PHI. The gospel delivers a mandate
to the church to care for the poor. We have found that PHI provides
a wonderful service to the poor that ensures a brighter future
for tomorrow and provides ways for families to produce income
and share that knowledge and skill with other families that can
help lift entire communities out of deep despair. There is an
old saying that captures the driving force behind PHI’s
ministry. “You can give a man a fish and you’ve provided
him one meal, teach him how to fish and he will never be hungry
again.” PHI provides animals, knowledge, training, and requires
the responsibility to pass on off spring, knowledge, and training,
so that multiplication of resources takes place from family to
family. We are excited to know our gifts are making a difference
both now and for years to come. back

| Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity has come
to Dekalb County, and we are excited to participate in this service
ministry. Habitat provides opportunities for our congregation
to become involved in the hands on work of ministry and mission.
It's always been a real concern for our church leadership not
only to be involved in world missions through our denomination,
but to see to it that our time and money involved with missions
is right here in our own community. What better way to help those
in our own community than through HFH. back
